5 Lessons We’ve Learned From Our Patients at Exceptional Smiles Family Dentistry

Part of being a good dentist is to constantly be learning. New methods, technologies and medical breakthroughs are happening all the time, and it’s important to stay on top of them. But outside of dental care, the most valuable things we’ve learned have not come from textbooks or seminars: they’ve come straight from the people sitting in our chairs.

Here are five lessons that we, your Harrisonburg dentists, at Exceptional Smiles Family Dentistry have learned from our patients.

#1. Everyone Is Different

The number one thing to remember when it comes to patient care is that no two patients are alike. A solution that works perfectly for one person may not be right for another. Some patients have anxiety or allergies to certain medications, which means that we have to be creative with our treatment plans. Getting to know each one individually is a vital part of the process.

#2. Always Ask Questions

Even if it seems silly or obvious, if you have a question, you should always ask it. When you’re treating patients, you should never make assumptions, no matter how trivial. Asking questions can make all the difference in a diagnosis or treatment, and it often makes things go much more quickly.

And the same goes for our patients, too. We want you to ask questions! When you’re in the chair, you should feel in control. Never hesitate to ask us what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, or what happens next.

#3. Take Care Of Yourself, Too

It’s almost impossible to take care of other people if you’re not taking care of yourself. Of course, our patients are always our number one priority, but we always make sure to work on ourselves as well. This means trying our best to get enough sleep, eat healthy, and make time for the people and activities that make us happy.

#4. Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously

Dental health is serious business, but the time we spend with patients doesn’t have to be. We make it our mission to make sure that everyone who walks into our office is always smiling. Telling stories and cracking jokes brightens our day, and also helps to put the person in the chair more at ease.

#5. Remember To Say Thanks

We know that our patients are the reason we’re able to keep our practice up and running. We are incredibly grateful to each and every person who chooses Exceptional Smiles Family Dentistry for their dental care, and we take every opportunity we can to let them know.

So THANK YOU to all of our patients for the laughs and lessons, and we hope we’ve been able to teach you a few things as well. If you have any additional words of wisdom you’d like to share, leave them for us in the comments below or contact us!
